DEFENCE INDUSTRIAL CORRIDOR
1. The projects for defense industrial corridor in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh were launched
recently by Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Uttar Pradesh Chief
Minister Yogi Adityanath.
2. As part of defence corridor in UP, six nodal points, Agra, Aligarh, Lucknow, Kanpur,
Chitrakoot and Jhansi have been identified.
3. The main purpose of setting of these two corridors is for inclusion of Indigenous Design,
Development and Manufacture (IDDM) category and giving it top priority in capital
acquisition, introduction of make procedure and simplification of licensing process. 4. Two defence corridors have been proposed by the central government one in UTTAR
PRADESH and the other in TAMIL NADU.
MOX, NOIDA
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of country’s first Mobile Open
Exchange (MOX) zone in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
Regional Rail Training Institute inaugurated at
Ghazipur, Uttar PradeshIndian Railways inaugurated Regional Rail Training Institute (RRTI) at Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh
in a bid to strengthen expertise and capabilities of themployees of North-Eastern Railways.
Besides, newly constructed 400 metre washing pit at Ghazipur City station was also inaugurated
at a cost of Rs 19.62 crores.

Power Grid signs MoU with UP Power Corp for
energy efficiencyPower Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) has signed Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation (UPPCL) for energy efficiency and agricultural
demand side management program . POWERGRID and UPPCL are going to hold further
discussions to decide terms and conditions for placement of agriculture pump sets in East and
South DISCOMs of Uttar Pradesh. POWERGRID is contemplating investment of about Rs 2,200
to 2,500 crores.
National Mission for Clean Ganga organizes
Ganga Vriksharopan AbhiyanNational Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) had organised Ganga Vriksharopan Abhiyan in five
main Ganga basin states – Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. The
drive was launched on 9th July 2018 for a week upto 15 July 2018 which was observed as
‘Shubharambh Saptah’.

the distressed sugar industry in the country. Currently, UP is India’s foremost sugar producing
state and it is likely to maintain this position for the next two years
Taj Declaration to Beat Plastic PollutionWith an aim to make 500-meter area around Taj Mahal litter free and phase out single use
plastic, Union Minister Mahesh Sharma administered a pledge to AGRA
he pledge called “Taj Declaration to Beat Plastic Pollution” was made in the presence of United
Nations Environment Program (UNEP) Executive Director Erik Solheim and UNEP Goodwill
Ambassador Diya Mirza. The declaration came ahead to the World Environment day, June 5.

15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas to be held in Varanasi
in January 2019The 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas will be held in holy city if Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) from
January 21 to January 23, 2019. Its theme will be “Role of Indian Diaspora in building a New
India”. The mega event will be organised by Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in association
with Uttar Pradesh government. It will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his
Mauritian counterpart Pravind Jugnauth.
UP Government launches Ganga Hariteema YojanaUttar Pradesh Government has launched Ganga Hariteema Yojana (also known as Ganga
Greenery scheme) in 27 districts of the state located on the bank of river Ganga. It was launched

rivers of Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati.

inaugurated in Uttar PradeshHindon Elevated Road, India’s longest elevated road was inaugurated in Ghaziabad, Uttar
Pradesh by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. It connects UP Gate to Rajnagar Extension and will
make it easier to commute between Delhi and Ghaziabad.

32nd Surajkund International Crafts Mela held in
HaryanaThe 32nd edition of Surajkund International Crafts Mela was held at Faridabad, Haryana. It was
formally inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the presence of
Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar. It is annual cultural festival hosted since 1987 to showcase
richness and diversity of the handicrafts and cultural heritage of India. This year Uttar Pradesh is

Yara acquires Tata Chemicals urea plantNorwegian fertiliser giant Yara International has announced completion of its acquisition of Tata
Chemicals’ 1.2 million tonnes per annum production capacity urea plant at Babrala in Uttar
Pradesh. The Rs. 2,682-crore acquisition deal includes transfer of all assets and liabilities
(including working capital) relating to Babrala unit. It marks first foreign direct investment (FDI)
in India’s highly regulated urea sector.
NMCG approves five Namami Gange projects in
West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and UttarakhandThe National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has approved five Namami Gange projects
worth Rs 295.01 crore in West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Out of these 5 projects, three pertain to sewage management in West Bengal, one relates to
sewage management in Uttarakhand and remaining one is related to ghat improvement works in
